Local Souvenirs & Gifts

Desperate Literature- The perfect little bookstore. Great for picking up a book for yourself in English, or for a friend. They have many interesting books about Spain or set in Spain, and they have a variety of curated books in many languages with the biggest selections in English, Spanish & French. They also have super cool first editions and signed books.

Taller Puntera- Gorgeous handmade leather goods with character, and so much to choose from. They have fashionable bags, journals, wallets, cases for painters, knife holders etc. You can really get a unique gift for every person on your list at this one store.

Torrons Vicens

Torrons Vicens

Torrons Vicens- When I first moved to Madrid I was told Turrón is a traditional treat for Christmas, and that this is the best place to get it.  Everything I've ever tried at this store is delicious! They have yummy chocolate treats too, and the staff is super helpful.

La Violeta

La Violeta

La Violeta- I must admit I was hesitant to try these candies, because I tend to not like floral flavors; they are not only delicate in the wonderful design, but they are also delicate in taste. The candies have a perfect balance that is quite tasty. They sell other sweets too, and everything is beautifully packaged.

Casa de Diego

Casa de Diego

Casa de Diego- Handcrafted imaginative fans of many different styles and prices. They sell shawls, combs, and other accessories too. I see women using the fans in the summer in Madrid, and I love it.

Casa Hernanz- This is the shop you want to go to for handmade and authentic alpargatas/espadrilles. This is where Madrileños told me to go, and they have been making shoes here since 1840. Make sure you are prepared with your euro shoe size as you will go up to the counter to ask for your pair of shoes.
